PIÑATA workshop

K-6

A two-day workshop that introduces students to sculpture-making through piñatas. Students will design and construct their own piñata using cartonería techniques.


By the end of the workshop students will:

  • Demonstrate understanding of the history and purpose of piñatas.
  • Learn traditional cartonería techniques such as layering cardboard, paper, and wheat paste.
  • Understand the basic characteristics of sculptures as a three-dimensional art form.

Students will build a three-dimensional individual piñata using traditional techniques.

  • Read aloud: 20 mins
  • Vocabulary overview & theme
    discussion: 10 mins
  • Artmaking: 70 mins
  • Cleanup & show and share: 20 mins
