Self-Portrait workshop

K-6

A two-day workshop that introduces students to the life and art of Frida Kahlo. Students will create a self-portrait that celebrates identity and personal storytelling using tempera paint, oil pastels and acrylic markers.

By the end of the workshop students will:

  • Understand the relationship between key moments in Frida Kahlo’s life and how they inspire her art.
  • Understand the term “self-portrait”.
  • Develop foundational art skills: blending, shading, composition, and portraiture, using tempera paint, oil pastels, and acrylic markers.

Students will create an identity-based self-portrait inspired by Frida Kahlo’s expressive style and her surroundings.
