Lorena Marrón

Director of Education & Public Programs

Lorena is the Director of Education and Public Programs at Arte Américas since 2023. Lorena holds an MA in Modern and Contemporary Studies, and an MA in Art History from the City College of New York. She has worked as an editor for La Tempestad magazine in Mexico City and the publishing house Malpaso Ediciones. She has written in magazines, journals and newspapers across Mexico, Spain and the United States. She has also worked as a curator and photographer. She was awarded the “Young Creators” FONCA Grant in photography (2009), the Connor Award in Art History Essay (2013), and the Research Grant from The City College of New York (2013). She was also a Stanford-CCNY Research Fellow (2014), and a Jumex Foundation fellow (2013-2014). In 2019, she founded Palapa, a female-led business dedicated to enhancing the art of huarache making, fostering connections between contemporary designers and rural female weavers. In 2023, she was the Selection Committee & Tutor for the “Young Creators” Program at The Ministry of Culture (Mexico).

In her free time, you can find Lorena wearing huaraches and finding inspiration spending time with her two children.
