We’re thrilled to inaugurate our newest featured artist, Elizabeth Jiménez Montelongo, presenting “The Euphoric Dance of the Unconquered Mind.” This powerful body of work showcases richly textured oil paintings of Mexika dancers that radiate movement, energy, and strength, honoring the enduring traditions of Indigenous dance and ceremony.
At 6 PM, Elizabeth will offer an engaging talk and guided tour, giving insight into her process and story. Following the talk, experience the beauty and spirit of danza azteca, and enjoy Art Hop classics including hands-on art-making stations, local artesanos, and delicious food vendors!
Artist Bio:
Elizabeth Jiménez Montelongo is a visual artist, poet, and facilitator whose work is
informed by her Indigenous ancestry, Mesoamerican philosophy, Mexika & Mixtec art, Mexican culture, Raza history, and her experiences as a Chicana. Her artwork has been featured in over seventy exhibits across the United States, with solo shows at San José State University, Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, La Peña Cultural Center (Berkeley, CA) and Centro de Artes Gallery (San Antonio, Texas). Her paintings have also been featured in group exhibitions at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, CA and the Monmouth Museum in New Jersey. Elizabeth served as Creative Ambassador of the San José Office of Cultural Affairs and received a Commendation from San José City Council. She earned a BFA in Art and a BA in French from SJSU. Editorial Xingao published her book, Breathe Liberación. In 2023, Elizabeth Jiménez Montelongo was awarded the Creative Corps Initiative grant from the California Arts Council and YBCA. Her art has received an Honorable Mention from the Santa Clara Cultural Commission and Triton Museum of Art and is in the permanent collection of the City and County of San Francisco. She founded La Raíz Magazine in San José, California where she has an art studio. www.ejmontelongo.com

A las 6:00 pm, Elizabeth ofrecerá una interesante charla y una visita guiada, en las que nos dará a conocer su proceso creativo y su historia. Después de la charla, descubre la belleza y el espíritu de la danza azteca, y disfruta de los clásicos del Art Hop, como la estación de creación artística, artesanos locales y puestos de comida deliciosas!
