The story of this program
Founded in 2020 during the pandemic by Maestra Josie Bustos, Bilingual Storytime & Art Workshop began as a virtual space where families could gather through bilingual readings and guided artmaking from home.
This initiative was a way for Arte to keep the children of our community connected to their culture. Our community embraced this program, and thanks to community support and participation, Bilingual Storytime & Art Workshop continued as an in-person program. As the program grew, community support helped transform it into one of Arte's most beloved in-person family programs. The featured books celebrate diversity and cross-cultural awareness, while the related art projects promote creativity and a deeper understanding of the text.
Today, local bilingual educators, artists, and community members continue to lead storytimes and creative workshops with support from an early childhood specialist. This program celebrates cultures, languages, imagination, and connection.
