Caminos
Caminos is a literary, historic, and artistic reflection of the Latino experiences in the Valley spanning multiple generations. It is a story of resilience and resistance.
Currently on view at the Merced Multicultural Art Center.
Opening Reception: July 7, 2023 5pm
Over the course of three years in 2016-2018, Arte Américas collected interviews, photographs, and materials to document the history of the Latino presence in the valley, resulting in our exhibition Caminos throughout 2019.
Our guide for Caminos was Dr. Alex Saragoza, Madera native and UC Berkeley historian. The trip wandered through all our galleries, divided into periods from 1772 to the present, as the Central Valley changed from Native to Spanish to Mexican to United States control.
